Privacy Policy
Usurp is run by Prakhar Murary (Murary Studios), Jaipur, Rajasthan, India. This page explains what we collect and why.
What stays in your browser
Your game progress (name, simulated spend, badges, Decrees), your Crest Studio design, and your best scores and sound setting in the medieval games are saved in your own browser's local storage. The games read your saved Crest Studio design to put your coat of arms on your shield and banners; it never leaves your device for this. Clearing your browser data deletes all of it.
Online play in The Usurper
Playing The Usurper against computer knights stays entirely in your browser. When you play online (Quick match, a private room or joining with a code), one player's browser hosts the match and the other players' browsers connect to it directly over WebRTC. To find each other, browsers use the free PeerJS connection service (peerjs.com), and when a direct connection is not possible, PeerJS's relay servers pass the game traffic along. As with any direct connection, the players in a match and those services can see your IP address. The match itself (your knight's name, moves, votes and chat) goes only to the players in that match; we do not store it, and it is gone when the match ends. Public matches allow only preset quick-chat lines; free typing is only available in private rooms.
Optional cloud save
You can play every game as a guest without an account. If you choose Save my progress, your browser makes a random save code and sends your game progress to our server: your rank and stats in The Usurper, your best scores, the player name you chose and your Crest Studio design. We store it under a scrambled (hashed) form of the code, with the date it was last saved, on Vercel's storage service in the United States. We do not ask for your email, name or any other details, and we cannot tell who a save belongs to. Anyone who has your code can load that progress, so keep it to yourself. Saves are kept for up to two years after the last time they were updated. To have a save deleted, email us the code.
Analytics
Analytics is on by default. It shows us which pages and games people use, where things break, and which links and campaigns bring people here. We use four tools:
- Microsoft Clarity records clicks, scrolling and page performance, and can replay a visit with the text you type masked. It sets cookies and collects device and usage data. In the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, Clarity does not set cookies unless you have given consent. See Microsoft's privacy statement at privacy.microsoft.com.
- Vercel Web Analytics counts page views without cookies. It keeps the page, the referring site, your country, browser and device type, and does not identify you.
- Campaign tags note where your visit came from: the marketing fields on the link you followed (such as utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, or an ad click ID like gclid), the referring site, and the page you landed on. They are kept in your browser's local storage for up to 90 days, added to Clarity, and, if you buy from Crest Studio, sent to our payment provider Dodo Payments with your order so we know which channels lead to sales.
- Our play counter counts how many times each game on usurp.games is started and finished, per week. It keeps only those totals: no cookies, no IP address and nothing about who played.
We also use Google Search Console, which tells us how the site appears in Google Search and does not track you on our site.
Analytics is on in this browser.
This stops Microsoft Clarity, Vercel Web Analytics, campaign tags and our play counter in this browser, and deletes Clarity's cookies and saved campaign tags on this site. The games and Crest Studio work the same either way. The choice is saved in this browser only: other browsers and devices are not affected, and clearing your browser data resets it.
Games embedded on other websites
Website owners can put our games on their own pages. Those embedded games load no analytics, no advertising and no cookies. They keep only the best scores and the sound setting in the player's own browser. Our hosting provider receives the standard technical information any web request carries, such as the IP address and the address of the page the game is embedded in, to deliver the game and keep it secure.
Advertising
The free games on usurp.games and some free pages may show ads. Ads are never shown on the Crest Studio designer or during checkout. When ads are on, they are served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites, and to measure them. You can turn off personalised ads at adssettings.google.com, and learn how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Where the law requires it, for example in the UK and the European Economic Area, you will be asked for consent before any of this happens. Banners sold directly to a sponsor are plain images and links that track nothing. We do not use the Meta (Facebook) Pixel at present; if we start promoting the games with Meta ads, we will say so here before it is switched on.
Purchases
If you buy Crest Studio artwork, Dodo Payments processes the payment as merchant of record. They collect your name, email, billing details and card information. We receive your name, email, country, purchase record and the crest design you bought (the name, motto and colours) so we can deliver your files and handle refunds. We never see or store your full card number.
If you email us, we keep the conversation to answer you. We do not sell your data or send marketing you did not ask for.
How long we keep it
Purchase records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires. Other data is deleted when no longer needed.
Your choices
You can ask us what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing hello@usurp.games. You can turn analytics off in this browser in the Analytics section above, and block advertising cookies in your browser settings.
